Bodyguard and Soulmate
This is a short and sweet piece describing strong love that can withstand temporary separation. You can certainly feel the love in the language of the narrator, but the piece, even for 400 words, seemed a bit wordy to me if considered a short short story. It might best be regarded as prose poetry.
"Bodyguard and Soulmate" reiterates the same point a number of times, namely the concept of a soulmate occupying the whole of one's self. Miranda, you have a nice voice here. Make every word count. Try not to repeat. (If you are inclined to use repetition, develop a rhythm.) Look to every point you make as a piece of bread you drop as you stroll in the woods - use them carefully and sparingly.
You've captured the soulmate concept here and given it some emotion. I would try working the piece to give it more color - what exactly does the male character do that gives the narrator the strength to break down barriers? What exactly is it that makes the two of them soulmates? Show the reader the answers. Make the reader envious.
