Billy had a problem, the author tells us, very matter-of-fact, Billy had a monster under his bed.
What Billy does about the monster under his bed is told very economically, and I enjoyed the story. The "monster" is a common inhabitant of children's stories, I've read a number of them to my kids, but this one is a bit different. Billy confronts his little problem head on, and I admire that. A guest-book comment refers to Billy seeming too adult, but I didn't think that when I was reading it.
I especially liked the last sentence.
