So, God doesn't want men to shave their faces. Fair enough, no problem, just let it grow. The narrator of this piece does just that. And deals with the consequences.

This is a piece of writing with a beautiful voice, a calm and joyous and serious all-at-the-same-time voice.

But, Zalman, it's not a short story? Unless perhaps it was told from the point-of-view of the beard. No, sorry, I'm being flippant, I found it both funny and touching, and liked it anyway, and I think other readers will too.
