The birthday celebrations for The King of Rock'n Roll take on a new meaning in this rather unusual love story. This is the simple tale of a casual relationship that has a deeper level than most.
I really enjoyed this story. It is a quirky love story that is original and manages to blend the images of Elvis into the narrative without overwhelming the main characters, Bobby Jo and Bobby Rippon. Bobby Jo fascinated me. She was a great character, a sensual woman who was consumed with Elvis.
This story really draws the reader into the fold very early and never lets go. I was engaged by the two characters. Would Bobby finally get into Bobby Jo's pants? Or was she too consumed with the King to even consider another man? The author resolves the dilemma of physical sexual needs versus Elvis obsession beautifully with a kinky scene that still brings a smile to my face.
There is a nice little twist to this story that questions the timing of Elvis' birthday and the motivations of Bobby Jo. I won't spoil the moment by spelling it out here but I will say that it brings a solid ending to the narrative.
The only moment that was a little inconsistent was when Bobby Jo sends Bobby Rippon a post card a long time after their little fling had ended. Perhaps its just my perception of a casual relationship - but I don't go around sending or receiving postcards after the fact. Alhough I felt this strayed from the casual feel the author built up for the Bobby's relationship, it does not detract from the story.
An excellent read for a "highly commendable" story.
