Flynn

Flynn is the story of a young man who awakens to find himself in strange and unusual circumstances, wandering around a town he doesn't recognize. He meets a woman he knows, Volara, who explains to him a few things that he didn't know, and isn't sure that he wants to hear.

This story is dialogue-centred, and the exchanges are mostly good and don't have the feel of feeding the reader information. There are not too many "he said/she said"s, either, which helps with the overall flow. A bit more description of the people and places could be added, without distracting from the story.

Natural-sounding dialogue is often a hard thing to accomplish in a fantasy story, and if this were fleshed out with some clear scenes, the conversations would make a good grounding for a plot. Some of the expressions used outside the dialogue are a bit weak: "laughter erupted" (twice) and "burst into tears of joy", for example. These things would be more effective if expanded and described.

I wonder, because of the abrupt ending, and maybe the author will enlighten me, whether this is the start of a longer work? If so, it has the potential to be a good tale, with Flynn and Volara, and some interestingly dark antagonists in Quarthos and the Shadow Knight.
