Learning to Fly is a story of two boys who play with drugs and one suffers lasting effects from them. It moves quickly although a bit of the text is a bit unbelievable- "The second he used the dope, he fell on the concrete and started going into seizures."
Then the author says that he is "standing there like an idiot" but he remembers to get rid of the dope AND being able to call 911.
And it's a little unbelievable as well that he was able to make up a story about assault and it was believed. Were the authorities supposed to think that they were assaulted and shot up by the attackers? And does the main character feel any remorse at all? It's a quick piece that has a moral to be learned at the end but with the main character getting off "scott-free", this piece remains a bit thin.
