Maureen is an imaginary friend. Or so PJ thinks, when he first starts writing to her. Letters to Maureen is the story of a childish pastime that turns strangely ominous.
The author of this story has a good feel for pacing. Everything starts off with calm, normalcy, and gradually descends into madness. I didn't mind the straight narrative feel, because it made it seem like a letter to the reader, which is appropriate, really. The sentences and sentence fragments set off by themselves are overused, as are exclamation points, and clutter the landscape a bit. One of my teachers once told me that exclamation points should only be used in an emergency: Help! Fire! for instance, and that a good writer would pull the emphasis with the words chosen.
All in all, though, a nicely creepy tale.
