Patch of Light

Patch of Light is an unconventional story that seems to transcend the traditional narrative and pushes-the-envelope on the short story genre.

This story is a mind trip that I suspect even John, Paul, Ringo and George would have been proud of! It's a courageous piece of writing and as an experimental work it is almost successful. There were parts of this story that began to scare me. I started pondering the meaning of some parts - "IF you, then you, if then you." - and I finally decided that if there was a meaning in that, I didn't want to know about it!

The story stumbled with inconsistencies. It seems as though the author wrote this story in about five different batches, leaving each segment for a period of 12 months or greater. There is a frustration in the writing and it is passed onto the reader. As sure sign that the author is losing a grip on their tale is when you see the line "to make a long-story-short". The transitions from action through to thoughts are not smooth and causes the reader to almost give up trying to follow what is going on.

Having said the story stumbles and trips about - it does have potential. It is this sort of writing that breaks down the barriers and develops a cult following. But the author must work hard at developing a firm style and stick to one style at a time - at least until they become famous enough to write whatever they want to.

Keep working at it, there is style and talent in here ... somewhere.
