This is my first rview for SSC and I hope that it does what I intend it to do. Encourage and lead the writer and reader to a better awareness of their own work. Sounds grand but its hard to do this with a few words on a story. So Ian, I liked reading this piece and I would encourage others to read it also, as this reviewer's views are not a true reflection of what the story sets out to say. Let the reader decide.
Much like the intro says, this is SF and it is fiction. This story starts out well, interesting yet full of the mundaneness of laboratory life. I related well to this as I work in a lab. At times I considered the main character's ponderings to be a little too tedious and his final decision I thought did not fit easily into the character, Ian, had created. The story still pulled me in and led me by the nose until the end. I would like to say where is it? (The end that is) But I know its there, its just not the ending I would expect. The story finnished too soon, too suddenly and too unbelievably. The ending's suggestion opens up far too many questions for it to leave off where it does. Despite the ending this is good solid writing with easy to follow scenes and senarios. Add another 2000 words of characterisation, description and answers to the final questions and it would probably make a better read.
