The Pupil
"Have you ever considered that all our emotions are held in a pool within our souls?" asks the Teacher. The young man questions the need for emotion and why the elderly are still around when their obvious worth has been diminished by their years.
So begins a story about the age-old conflict of what good are emotions and the elderly. Maybe some of our politicians or medical ethics professors could learn from this tale. Like the young man in the tale many consider our elderly just dead weight. A former governor of the U.S. state of Colorado gave speeches about this topic in which he urged the elderly to go and leave room for the young instead of taking up valuable jobs and resources. Since he is now in this age bracket will he take his own advice?
This story makes you wonder if the Teacher will be able to reach the young man or is he too caught up with reason and fact to see the obvious answer. A tidy yet timely tale.
