A Road to Peace

Ever want to read a story about a young hero, and a group of friends, fighting against persecution in some god-forsaken land, escaping oppression and fighting for freedom at every turn?

I've seen that. It's called Braveheart, and, to a lesser degree, it's called Roar.

Sorry if that sounds rather cynical. But I've seen this story before.

I suspect this story, which is quite good as a story on it's own, was inspired by TV programs like Roar, and the movie Braveheart. Not terribly original, but still a rather enjoying read.

The heroine, Kellein, fights against the oppressive Oedivan's until the age of 16, when she is captured.

There isn't really all that much else that can be said. Kellein yells such lines as "It is a good day to die!" (Worf, Star Trek: DS9) and, just before her head is cut off, "FREEDOM!" (William Wallace, Braveheart.) Like I said, inspiration runs over the surface of the skin here.

I admit, this review hasn't been very nice. But the whole story was kind of "blah", if you know what I mean. I just couldn't stay focused on it. I don't know why, the whole thing was very well written, until she starts screaming things most of us have heard before, somewhere.

The only suggestion I can offer is that the author, Katherine Dawson, try to re-program her originality circuits. Except for when making up cool names like 'Mor'dath' and 'Oedivan' The creation of non-sense words to be used as names and races is an art, and it's something I've been trying to master since I was 14. (3 years, that's a long time.)

Not a bad story. But not all that great either.
