Shoes

On Thanksgiving Allen counts his blessings. He wears a pair of shoes that serve to remind him of all that he has to be thankful for. His son is following in his footsteps -- wet behind the ears and somewhere on the road in search of fortune.

This story is arranged quite well. It has a nice flow. I thought the section describing Allen's time as a hobo might have been more effective if it had not been a narrative. It was too heavy handed and purposefully sentimental for my tastes.

This is a timely feel-good piece. For those with a taste for the really sweet, take time and read it.
