Son of the train tells the story of teenage passage, of the boy becoming a man, experiencing life, and internalizing the messages of the experience.
I think the story needs some editing, there are several poor word choices, incorrect uses of pronouns, and I found the changes in tense distracting.
The story is told purely as a recount of actions and events past, with the narrator moving between telling of the event, the emotion at that point and the way it is viewed now.
The narrator has an adult view on some things and a very adolescent view on others, a more consistent voice would have helped pull me into the telling.
The metaphor of the journey of life, and the journeys taken on a train while growing didnt quite work, (I think this is because the narrator wanted to cram too much in, nothing gets the attention it deserves) but its a great idea.
The material in this story could easily be made into several stories, viewed separately and as a whole.
