Stopover on Perusha

"Stopover on Perusha" by Gerald Eisman is a fine example of a good sci-fi story.

The giant shock wave sets up the basic conflict well and the way in which he leads the crew to Perusha is entirely Spockian in its logic.

If there are any similiarities between this and the mother of all sci-fi series, Star Trek, it does not detract from the story. No. 1, meaning the first officer, and the science officer are standard fare for sci-fi stories.

The planet of Perusha is logical in its setup and the fate of the people on the planet is a good twist.

"Everything appears as you remember it on your home planet. That is the wonder and the danger of this planet."

With this warning the crew is given a challenge which may prove to be too much for the captain and crew.

Gerald does a commendable job with this story. The ending seems almost too tidy but a second look at it leaves little room for improvement. A fine read for the sci-fi fan.
