Sketching Samantha manages to capture the essence of the way in which physical attraction is felt by young adults (and some not so young adults!). The breathlessness, the nervousness, the adrenalin, the pure joy at being well received - the essence of these emotions are all captured.

Although the story uses some cliched language, the style of sugary over-description used helps to set the scene, and is apt for the world Tiernan's ladies inhabit.

The journey this story took me on was familiar, yet distinct. I enjoyed the twists and turns. Without giving too much away, Melissa has written a girl meets boy tale with a few differences.

I was entertained through out, although I was a little disappointed at the cliched ending. I would have liked the story more if it had finished with the line "Exactly how she acted around him", or just after the next paragraph.

Still I think it is deserving of the quill beside its title.
