Night Visitations

This story, whether true or not, depicts faithfully one of the most tragic consequences of incest. It is one of the most disturbing and tragic of many repercussions from the violation of trust which any child can experience.

The sexual act, normally a beautiful bond of any relationship, is debased by the act of violence which it has sunk to. The basis for all normal loving relationships is destroyed leaving it a twisted shell of itself.

Who can know what drives a person who perpetrates such an act. Were they themselves violated as a child? The loss of innocence is a fragile thing and often the victims in their anger turn away from those who could help, such as trained counselors or ministers.

Paddy has taken the blinds away and given a seemingly victims-view of the terribleness of the act. Maybe from this story those who have suffered such a violation can find the strength to both confront their attackers and to forgive.

The natural reaction to this assault is to shrink back and to deny the terrible crime ever happened. Shame covers all involved, from the perpetuator, victim, and assorted family members or friends who may have known but did nothing out of fear. If writers do nothing else in life they can bring to light things such things which are kept hidden for fear.

All are victims in this tragic drama which is played out too often in real life. Fear of the stigma must be overcome and the reality of the situation must be dealt with if there is to be healing.

Thanks Paddy for a heart-wrenching but compelling story. Sometimes a story must be graphic to realitistically portray the evil which can only be destroyed by the light of truth.
