A Walk
A lonely woman takes a walk with a companion. The impact of the companion on her thoughts is the key to the story.
It is pretty clear that the writer can put words together. The feeling and atmosphere of the location of the story are very well maintained. I felt, however, that the way in which the people were introduced left me ininvolved. Perhaps this was because the writer is holding back on information about the woman's walking companion, and I won't spoil the impact here. It is clear towards the end of the story.
The language is fine, but somehow the effect is murky. There is much more story here than we are allowed access to. Also, in the dialogue, it took effort enough to unravel just who was talking to whom to distract me from the story.
Interesting and readable,
