The Wishing Well
Imagine wanting for everything but seemingly having nothing. Then imagine wishing on a wishing well and getting everything- but not the everything that you wanted! In this work Rebecca is a wife and a mother- "happily married" as she calls it. But she is jealous of everyone and the things that they have which are better than the things she has.
Telling her story in an easy manner which I loved, Rebecca's adventure begins at an amusement park wishing well where an old man tells her that wishes really come true from it. Unbelieving she makes her wish and gets the shock of her life. Her luck takes a turn and she finds herself more jealous than ever of other peoples possessions and lives.
While I loved the ending of this story, a question still pops into my mind: The old man had said that only the wishes come true that are asked for others. If this is so, why didn't they come true for her son and husband? If it was because of some "spell" her wish to herself had cast on them, it needs to be more clear that this was the cause. With this, if there was to be a lesson learned that she had grown to appreciate what she had- her family and eventually their health, this also needs to be more clear. As it stands, I see that she has grown to "love" her family more and deal with what is given to her but she still longs for what others have.
Although these issues linger in my mind for a quick short story read, this story is worth the time.
