Afternoon is a piece about two girlfriends, Mindy and Kim, who subtly pursue Mindy's brother. When this doesn't work, they take more direct action. The result is a bit confusing. Although he seemed to like the attention from Kim, at the end, the reader is left wondering a few things: One, does he return the affection or was his shiver merely a human response to semi-sexual foreplay? Two, why can't Kim do her own hunting? And three, if he doesn't return the affection and his indifference is not faked, why does Kim still call him a charm at the end? This piece of work could be really good if the difference was shown a bit more clearly. Until then I'd have to say it's a mediocre attempt at romance and the human condition.
