The Carnival

Bobby P and his girlfriend/supplier/housekeeper are about to become rich. The only thorn in their anticipated bed of roses is Bobby's son, ten-year-old Chapel. So, naturally, they decide to do away with him.

The funny thing is that this decision makes sense in the context of their drug-induced world vision. I found the story a little hard to read at first, but it's worth the effort to get into it. There are occasional awkward word usages, but they seem to add to the overall atmosphere, it's an awkward sort of story.

The author does a creditable job of capturing a ten-year-old boy, too. At that age, Chapel (strange name?) would still be happy to see evidence of love from his father despite being abused.

The ending is great, but I won't give it away, I'll just say that it is done nicely, no unnecessary dramatics, just like the rest of the story.
