This is a story about a monster. The narrator, who is never given a name, (That's actually kind of neat) is attacked by a vicious creature (given the interesting name of "Six-Eyed-Boogle-Headed-Seven-Toed Purple Monster". ), and ends up in a hospital. The ensuing hysteria (Pick your word : sillyness, carnage, strangeness, etc.) results in an interesting bit of humour. Although this is in the horror genre, I don't think it was the author's intention to really scare anyone.
When I first read this story, before I was told I would be reviewing it, I thought it was written by an older 'woman' (The author is only 9 years old.), who was trying to write a silly story. The use of language was very good, and gave me a good image of everything that was going on in the story. I must say that I am astonished that this came from a nine year old mind. At nine, I could barely be considered sentient. I suspect that, as the author matures, and if she continues to be a writer, we might be seeing some very, very interesting stories from her, quite probably even in print.
I liked this story. An interesting piece of work, that still leaves a few questions, none the less. I wonder if this was perhaps a dream or something similar that the author had at one time. There were several references to sleeping the whole way through. and the very last few lines, (...collapsing on the ground and falling asleep.Talking about sleep, it happened to be time to wake up!) really sounded like a dream, or maybe the narrator was supposed to have dreamed the whole thing. I guess I just don't understand.
I liked this story. (I said that already) However, I suggest that the author work on character development, and writing longer stories. It would be interesting to see a story that is similar to this, but longer and more thought out.(maybe a little work could be done on punctuation as well.)
But despite these few, small things,(they really wouldn't have effected the story anyway.) this was nice work, Clare.
