Osiris is a science fiction tale that deals with so many questions at once you really need to read the story at least twice. Neatly woven into the tapestry is the Great Pyramid of Giza, space travel and a plethora of biblical references.
This short story is neatly written with a good pace that keeps the momentum of the narrative moving briskly. Discovery within the Pyramid of Giza is a well worn topic and yet the author manages to wrest a new angle from the subject matter. I liked the opening paragraph, which was a general commentary on the factual and amazing statistics on Giza. It hooks the reader and comfortably moves them into the body of the story.
Osiris doesn't quite work at times because it deals with too many issues at once, occasionally seems rushed and the main characters needed some more work. Adam's general acceptance of his extraordinary circumstances (including coming back from the dead and being hailed the king of a new planet) was just a little too much to swallow. The only purpose Lynn served in the story was to play on the biblical reference to Adam and Eve and even then I felt we were given too many clues to this reference.
I know this story can work, and in many respects it already does. But the author needs no either make this short story longer or concentrate on some of the great ideas within - not all of them.
One final comment - what a great name for an Author - Thomas A Coffin Jr. I'm jealous!
