Strange Wind
Strange forces are at work on an otherwise beautiful afternoon. Sudden winds, bright lights, people running in panic; Clare Manson's Strange Wind is a collage of scary bits, presented with her usual humor.
Clare is, I'm told, the youngest author on the Collective, at nine years old. It's good to see such a wide range of authors here, makes for interesting reading.
The build-up in this story is very good, and shows the beginnings of a grasp on writing horror, but I have to wonder about Andrew popping off to bed when the going gets tough. Takes the edge off an otherwise promising story..
The ending is better, in an understated dramatic way, than some of Clare's other stories. And I think it's safe to say that no matter what the age of the author, I always enjoy reading stories that the author obviously enjoyed writing...
