This is a story of an adventure held while growing up, if it isnt autobiographical it certainly sounds it, both in the attitude of the narrator and the telling of events.
The story tells of the adventure of floating down a river in an inner tube. Things dont go smoothly, but then adventures never do.
The writer is at his best when he is commenting on events, and providing character assassination, sorry - I mean character profiles. The characters are believable, some likeable, some not, as it is and should be in life.
I think the telling of the story should be edited, there are long strings of sentences with ALL of the detail. I made a sandwich, I got out the bread, then I buttered it, then I got out the ....da da da, the readers dont need all of the detail. Just the salient bits, cutting some of the extraneous stuff will result in the flatness of the story being banished, and some peaks and troughs being created. This is more exciting/interesting to read.
Still I look forward to the next instalment, writers who write about these sorts of events, in this way, always have lots of stories to tell..........
